Arrival

Transfer from Kilimanjaro International Airport to Moshi

On day one of your Kilimanjaro Marangu Route climb, you will arrive at Kilimanjaro International Airport and be met by your guide and driver. You will then transfer to Moshi, a town located at the foot of Mount Kilimanjaro. After checking into your hotel, you will enjoy lunch and then go for a short walk around Moshi to get your bearings. In the evening, you will have dinner at a local restaurant and then relax for the evening.
The transfer from Kilimanjaro International Airport to Moshi takes about 2 hours. Moshi is a great place to acclimatize to the altitude before your climb. There are many shops and restaurants in Moshi where you can buy souvenirs and supplies for your climb.

On day 2 of your Kilimanjaro Marangu Route climb, you will transfer from your hotel to the Marangu Gate (1860m). After a briefing and equipment check, you will begin your hike through the dense rainforest. The rainforest is home to a variety of plant and animal life, including black and white colobus monkeys, blue monkeys, and various bird species. You will hike for 3-4 hours to reach Mandara Hut (2700m). In the afternoon, you can take a short trip to Maundi Crater (15 minutes away) for stunning views of Kilimanjaro, north Tanzania, and Kenya. Enjoy dinner and overnight at Mandara Hut.
The hike from Marangu Gate to Mandara Hut is relatively easy, making it a good way to start your climb. The rainforest is a great place to see wildlife and to acclimatize to the altitude. Maundi Crater is a great place to get a panoramic view of Kilimanjaro and the surrounding area. Mandara Hut is a comfortable hut with bunk beds and shared bathrooms.

On day 3 of your Kilimanjaro Marangu Route climb, you will start your day with an early breakfast and hike from Mandara Hut (2700m) to Horombo Hut (3700m). The hike is moderate, with a significant increase in altitude. You will hike through the rainforest and into the heath and moor zone, where you will have stunning views of Mawenzi, Kibo, and the Maasai steppe. Horombo Hut is a large hut with bunk beds and shared bathrooms. It is a good place to rest and acclimatize to the altitude before the summit attempt.

The hike from Mandara Hut to Horombo Hut is a great way to experience the different vegetation zones of Kilimanjaro. You will start in the rainforest, where you can see black and white colobus monkeys, blue monkeys, and various bird species. As you hike higher, you will enter the heath and moor zone, which is a transitional zone between the rainforest and the alpine desert. The views from Horombo Hut are incredible, and you can see all the way to Mawenzi, Kibo, and the Maasai steppe.

Horombo Hut is a good place to rest and acclimatize to the altitude before the summit attempt. The hut is large and has bunk beds and shared bathrooms. There is also a restaurant where you can eat dinner and breakfast. After a long day of hiking, it is nice to relax at Horombo Hut and enjoy the views.

On day 4 of your Kilimanjaro Marangu Route climb, you will have an acclimatization day. This is an important part of any Kilimanjaro climb, as it allows your body to adjust to the high altitude. After breakfast, you will hike to Zebra Rocks (3980m), a distinctive rock formation with striking black-and-white stripes. The hike to Zebra Rocks is relatively short, but it is important to take it slow and listen to your body. The views from Zebra Rocks are incredible, and you can see all the way to Mawenzi and Kibo. After enjoying the views, you will return to Horombo Hut (3700m) for lunch and some rest. In the afternoon, you can prepare for the next day's hike.

Horombo Hut is a good place to rest and to prepare for the summit attempt. The hut is large and has bunk beds and shared bathrooms.  After a long day of hiking, it is nice to relax at Horombo Hut and enjoy the views.

Horombo Hut (3700m) - Kibo Hut (4700m)

On day 5 of your Kilimanjaro Marangu Route climb, you will have a long and challenging hike to Kibo Hut (4700m). The hike starts early in the morning with breakfast at Horombo Hut (3700m). You will then hike to the Last Waterpoint (4330m), the highest water point on the Marangu Route. After that, you will continue to the saddle, a near vegetation-less plateau that joins the main summit Kibo with Mawenzi. The final leg of the hike to Kibo Hut is steep and strenuous, and the altitude can be challenging. It is important to take it slow and listen to your body on this day. Kibo Hut is the last stop before the summit attempt, so it is important to get a good night's sleep.

After a hearty dinner, you will turn in early for the night. The summit attempt will begin in the early morning hours, so it is important to be well-rested.

On day 6 of your Kilimanjaro Marangu Route climb, you will wake up at 11 pm and have a light snack. You will then start the summit attempt at midnight, hiking through the frozen lava ash to Hans Meyer Cave (5220m). After that, you will continue to Gillman's Point (5681m), the crater rim of Kilimanjaro. Finally, you will reach Uhuru Peak (5895m), the roof of Africa, at sunrise! Congratulations, you have made it to the top! Enjoy the views and take some photos. After a while, you will descend to Kibo Hut for a warm meal and some rest. In the afternoon, you will continue to Horombo Hut (3700m). Enjoy an evening meal and a well-deserved rest.

The summit attempt is the most challenging part of the climb, but it is also the most rewarding. The views from the summit are incredible, and it is a truly unforgettable experience. The descent is easier than the ascent, but it is still important to take it slow. After the summit attempt, it is important to rest and rehydrate.

Horombo Hut (3700m) - Marangu Gate (1860m)

On day 7 of your Kilimanjaro Marangu Route climb, you will have a final hike from Horombo Hut (3700m) to Marangu Gate (1860m). The hike is downhill and relatively easy, but it is still important to take it slow.

The first part of the hike leads through heath and moorland to Mandara Hut (2700m). After that, you will once again pass through the tropical rainforest. Finally, you will reach Marangu Gate (1860m), where you will be met by your driver and transferred back to your hotel.

After leaving your mountain team, you can finally enjoy a hot and relaxing shower and celebrate your summit success. You have accomplished something truly amazing!

Departure

Transfer to Kilimanjaro International Air Port

After breakfast at your hotel, prepare for your departure as your unforgettable Kilimanjaro adventure comes to an end. Take time to pack your belongings and say goodbye to your guides and support team, whose dedication and expertise made your journey to the summit possible.

You will then be transferred to Kilimanjaro International Airport for your onward flight home.

As you leave Tanzania, reflect on the incredible achievement of reaching the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro and the memories you have created along the way. For many travelers, this journey is just the beginning—often followed by a relaxing or wildlife-filled Tanzania safari, completing the ultimate East African experience.
