The next two days are set aside for exploring the Selous Game Reserve, Tanzania's hidden treasure. One of Africa's oldest and wildest protected areas, Selous is the largest game reserve on the continent.
We embark on 4x4 game drives in open-sided safari vehicles with picnic lunches spending two full days on safari in this vast, undisturbed wilderness area. Selous covers 54 600 km - an area larger than Switzerland and three times that of Serengeti National Park in northern Tanzania. One of the most special things about visiting this vast national park is the absence of crowds. Selous offers a secluded safari experience off-the-beaten-track of the famous East African parks. The game reserve was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1982 for its outstanding undisturbed habitats, wildlife diversity and size. Our game drives take us through some of the varied habitats in search of wildlife, birds and other creatures. This scenery is beautiful and varies from grassland plains and lakes to woodlands and riverine forests.
Selous is inhabited by a huge number of wild animals, including the Big Five of Africa. Numerous elephants are found here, along with large herds of buffalos. Selous is a stronghold for lion and wild dog (painted wolf) populations, hosting some of the highest concentrations in Africa. There are also spotted hyenas, jackals and elusive leopards in Selous. Other large mammals commonly sighted in Selous include giraffes, zebras, hippos, wildebeest and a variety of other antelopes such as impalas, sable, puku, greater kudu, eland, Lichtenstein's hartebeest, bushbuck, oryx and waterbuck.
Depending on arrival time at Selous, you will have your lunch in the bush followed by an afternoon walking safari along its wilderness and in the evening arrive at Africa Safari wilderness camp for dinner and overnight.

On day five we embark on 4x4 game drives in Mikumi, going in search of the abundant wildlife and birds found here. Established in 1964, Mikumi National Park covers about 3 230 km (1 247 mi).

Elephants are also commonly sighted in Mikumi. We may be lucky enough to see lions and even leopards or wild dogs. Other carnivores found here include jackals, hyenas and crocodiles. Mikumi hosts over 400 bird species too. Bird sightings include yellow-throated long claws, bateleur and African fish eagles, black-bellied bustards, lilac-breasted rollers, marabou storks, oxpeckers, straw-tailed whydahs and Boehm's bee-eaters.

On this day you will have a full day game drive in Mikumi national park to enjoy the way wild animals interact with each other and how they protect each other. If you are lucky enough you can see the chase and killing of prey (zebra) by lions.
In the afternoon stop over for lunch and continue with game drive until sunset. In the evening return to your lodge for dinner and overnight.
Over the next two days, we go in search of the diverse wildlife and birds of Ruaha in our 4x4 safari vehicles. This massive national park covers about 20 226 km (7 809 mi) of the uninhabited African wilderness, including vast open plains and rocky hills dotted with baobab trees. In Ruaha, we encounter far fewer people than in most other reserves, especially the famous northern parks of Tanzania (Serengeti and Ngorongoro). You can look forward to a crowd-free African safari experience with plenty of wildlife sightings!
Ruaha is known for its exceptional predator sightings, hosting large populations of Africa's big cats. One of Africa's largest lion populations is found in the park, representing 10% of the wild lions left on earth. Ruaha is home to one of only four sizeable cheetah populations (over 200 adults) found in East Africa. Plus the park hosts the third-largest population of endangered African wild dogs (painted wolves) in the world. To top it off Ruaha also serves as a stronghold for spotted
hyena and leopard populations. In addition to its impressive predator populations, Ruaha also provides sanctuary to over 10000 African elephants. In addition to elephant herds, buffalos are also commonly sighted, as well as various antelopes, giraffes and zebras. The national park is located in a transitional zone between eastern and southern eco-regions and as a result, features a unique mix of plant and animal species. The high diversity of flora and fauna found here includes both greater and lesser kudu, along with rare sable and roan antelopes.
Dinner and overnight accommodations will be at Tandala Camp
